English heritage don’t do a great job of allowing this awe inspiring place to breathe – noisy buses all the time and crowds. They keep you away from the stones though. Sad but I suppose necessary. I have a lovely photo of my Mum from back in the 50’s sitting on one of the stones. We tried to catch the place just after dawn by walking in via footpaths but even then, noisy bleeping machines and people in awful high vis jackets swarmed over the monument.
Stonehenge art images inspired by the atmosphere of the place – still strong despite the circus of tourist noise but crying out to be better understood. This should be a tranquil, reverent place but it isn’t allowed to be. If this was a cathedral would they treat it like this?
