This is “Curly” the curlew who I saw quite often during the last year – unusually tame, this fantastic bird gets around and feeds with only one good leg – the other is missing below the “knee” joint……

Now available – my Wivenhoe Calendar 2023 – a slim appointment calendar with scenes of Wivenhoe…. the place I was born and still love. If you have lived there you know how special it is. While I am now exiled to Somerset, I still visit regularly and love wandering around the streets, through the woods and by the river….

Costs being what they are I am only making a small number of these available direct from me rather than via Etsy (which has become difficult and unaffordable to use), so if you would like one, I would be delighted to send it to you direct. Please complete the contact form to get in touch if you would like one and I will get back to you…. The cost is £12 plus post and packing (costed based on your address and preferred service).

Details of the calendar are as follows:

Slim calendar measuring 420mm high x 148mm wide with room for appointments to be entered.

One page per month – 13 leaves.

Paper stock: High quality heavy weight stock with premium silk finish – 170gsm Leaves.

Wivenhoe has a unique atmosphere and a fascinating history. Wivenhoe village nestles in picturesque setting on the banks of the River Colne where the river widens into its estuary on the east coast. The village is mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086 and has a church (St. Mary the Virgin), dating back to 1254. Historically it was an important port serving nearby Colchester and having thriving fishing and shipbuilding industries. The lower village is a designated conservation area with attractive and architecturally interesting buildings and streets. Wivenhoe has a long-standing artistic community and was home to the actress Joan Hickson, and artists Francis Bacon, Dickie Chopping and Denis Wirth-Miller among others.
